The U.S. Federal Government
alone spends over $200 billion a year on goods and services.
This is a huge market, especially for small business.
Unless you are Oracle (or other large corporation that can attempt to claim a
sole-source exemption), you will have to competitively bid on government
contracts.
At the state level, each state has its own Department of Transportation that spends
U.S. DOT funds for freeway construction.
Each state also buys its own goods and services, usually through
its office of procurement, administration, or general services.
At the local level,
counties and cities purchase goods and services either on their own or through
pre-negotiated contracts with the state or federal government.
