Latino groups demand more credit cards for undocumented immigrants

Monday, July 11th, 2011

(Examiner.com) In Phoenix, the only bank that has been issuing credit cards to undocumented immigrants is Bank of America . However, civil rights group Take Back Aztlán has been working with more banks to change this.

“Undocumented Latinos have been hit just as hard with the recession as other Americans,” claims Take Back Aztlán President Jorge Serrano. “Issuing credit cards to these people will help stimulate our economy while helping these people buy necessary things like food and clothes for their children.”

It is estimated that 20 percent of undocumented Latinos have some type of credit account with a bank or a credit union. Jorge Serrano hopes this number will rise in the next year.
